Registry
Basics
Opening a bridal registry might ruin the
suspense, surprise, and ultimately, the confusion
that you and your partner experience opening up wedding
packages. You will spend less time ogling oddly shaped
gift boxes and more time using the gifts inside. Virtually,
every gift will be one that you hand-selected. There
will be no special trips back to the store to exchange
duplicate gifts. Does that sound so bad?
Personal
Shopping Spree. Start jotting down
potential gifts for your bridal registry before you
open your account. Collect clippings from catalogues
and magazines. List the specifics, preferred colors,
and patterns for household items. Keep small notebooks
around the house. A television commercial, TV show,
or even a dream can trigger ideas.
Opening Your Gift Registry. Choose
one or two of your favorite stores to open your bridal
registry. Call ahead and make an appointment to speak
to a customer service representative. Make sure that
the store you select will accept orders by telephone
or through the Internet. The additional service will
make it easier for out-of-town guests to participate
in gift giving.
Be Generous.
It is okay to select more gifts than you expect to
receive on your wedding day or at the bridal shower.
Give guests plenty of options from which to choose.
Make sure you include gifts that will work on any
budget.
Get Good Gifts. While established
couples can opt for fun and creative gifts, it is
a good idea for their younger counterparts to opt
for traditional gifts. Flatware, bedding, bath towels,
and small appliances are great gifts for couples starting
life anew. Get rid of any preconceptions you may have
about bridal registries. Opening a gift registry at
your favorite store(s) does not make you pushy, greedy,
or gluttonous. Most guests prefer purchasing wedding
gifts for couples with bridal registries. They can
zip by your store after work or purchase
a gift online in less than 30 minutes. It really is
that easy.
